Finds Efficiencies, Savings Via Leading-Edge Air Filtration from Camfil

Compared to Bottler’s Previous Filters, Camfil’s Clean Air Solution Improved Performance While Saving More Than $43,000 a Year

Riverdale, NJ – When it comes to clean air in the work environment, all companies have the same goal: to get top performance in air filtration while maximizing cost efficiency. But in the food and beverage industry, that mandate – and the challenge in meeting it – is heightened still, as contaminants that get into a manufacturer’s product can harm its customers, sales, and reputation. These companies don’t just need a good clean air solution, but an optimal one – and at an optimal cost.

For one major bottled water producer – an industry leader with production facilities in more than 35 countries – that optimal solution had long proved elusive. Filters needed to be changed frequently to avoid product contamination and bottling line flow problems. And with those frequent change outs came significant material, labor, and disposal costs. The problem was that the pleated and final filters the company used were failing prematurely and gaining resistance – leading to contamination and production loss – at an unacceptably high rate.

Realizing that its existing system was simply not tenable, the company knew it had to take a different approach. So it called in Camfil – the world’s leading provider of clean air solutions. Working with the bottler, Camfil was able to guide a transition to a leading-edge solution that would reduce air filter life cycle costs while improving performance.

Indeed, developing clean air solutions that maximize both efficiency and savings has long been Camfil’s own mandate – and one it meets through a unique network of a half dozen global research centers. Camfil air filters are designed to maintain their peak efficiency far longer than more traditionally designed filters, which means the total cost of ownership can be dramatically reduced – even as the air filters do a better job of removing harmful particles from the air.

In the bottler’s case, Camfil’s air filtration experts recommended simple modifications to the company’s filter housings, which would allow the use of 2-inch prefilters and 12-inch box-style filters (as opposed to the previous configuration of 4-inch pleated prefilters and 4-inch final filters). Camfil then tested two different filter combinations, finding that the best results – based on criteria including contaminant removal efficiency, contaminant holding capacity, and resistance to airflow — came with the use of Camfil’s 2-inch FARR 30/30 and 12-inch Durafil ES. This combination also significantly outlasted the bottler’s existing solution – which meant significant cost savings.

Indeed, by switching to the Camfil air filters, the bottler was able to reduce its annual total filter consumption from 1,920 air filters to just 360. Meanwhile, the greater efficiency of the new filters meant less energy was required. In total, the material, maintenance, and energy savings amounted to more than $43,000 a year – achieved while performance – of the air filters and the production line, as well — increased.

Better results, better savings: The bottler’s new clean air solution wasn’t just a win, but a win on multiple fronts.
