In 2009, Camfil set out on a mission to become the world’s first sustainable air filtration company – no small goal in a world where products that go easier on the environment, and the wallet, must also deliver exceptional performance. In its corporate report on sustainability Camfil details how it has met that ambitious goal for hospital air filtration systems and all other industries.

This report is now available online at http://www.camfilfarr.com/campaign/sustainability/PDF/CSR.pdf.

“We took these initiatives because we believe in sustainability,” says Alan O’Connell, the company’s president and chief executive officer. “Our efforts in this area confirm what we have been doing for almost half a century: greening the operations of our customers by providing air filtration products with the lowest energy consumption and life cycle costs, while improving the environment, human health, and productivity.”

The initiatives include energy conservation programs, life cycle assessments to mitigate the environmental impact of Camfil products and operations, and volunteer programs to help support, and care for, local communities.

Camfil air filters – whose innovative, high-efficiency designs can reduce HVAC energy costs by 25 to 50 percent – are used in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, schools, office buildings, hotels, and other public and commercial facilities. The benefits of clean air solutions have proven particularly important in hospitals, where airborne infections are a constant danger. By better protecting people from harmful air particles and pollution – while reducing the energy consumption of ventilation systems – Camfil filters provide more healthful air will lowering total cost of ownership. For example, hospitals can cut down on airborne infections while cutting expenses.

Much of the savings come from one simple fact: Because Camfil air filtration solutions are designed not to degrade over time – a common problem with other air filters – they don’t need to be changed as often. That saves replacement and disposal costs, but it also means less waste, which means less material going to landfills.

Camfil’s product line has been expanded to include a range of filters that maintain their efficiency over their life and use less energy to move air through the filter. These include the company’s 30/30 filters and Durafil ES – green air filtration products that also reduce a customer’s carbon footprint, helping to tackle climate change.

Sustainability is a key issue for Camfil because it is the future – its own future, its customer’s future, the planet’s future. With 71 years of experience in air filtration products and solutions, the company contributes something that is essential to everyone: clean air. Today it does so with products that are more efficient, more environmentally-friendly, and more economical than ever before. Products like these are the future, too. And at Camfil, that future is already here.
