Savvy consumers and businesspeople know that going green can do more than help the environment. It can save money, too, while maintaining high standards of performance. The trick is finding the right ‘green’ products — those designed from the ground up to deliver sustainability, without hidden costs and compromises.

Case in point: Camfil USA’s 30/30 air filter, the first true MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) 8 filter. Designed for industrial, commercial, and institutional environments, its MERV rating means it will contribute to the objectives of the U.S. Green Building Council (“LEED”) for energy savings, and reduced disposal impact. The 30/30 filter also holds the distinction of earning five stars — the highest rating granted — on the Energy Cost Index (ECI), which signifies that it maintains its efficiency over its life and uses less energy to move air through the filter. In short: great performance at reduced overall costs. The win-win of going green.

Indeed, the 30/30 MERV 8 filter — compatible with virtually any filter bank used in commercial settings — substantially reduces energy costs associated with HVAC operation. Tests have shown that it has a 30 percent higher dust holding capacity than other MERV 8 filters, which means it can be changed out less frequently. That saves maintenance costs, replacement costs — and the amount of waste going into landfills. At the same time, however, airflow resistance remains low. In fact, the 30/30 has the lowest average pressure drop of any MERV 8 product — something that translates directly into lower energy costs.

The secret is in the design. The media for the 30/30 MERV 8 filter is Camfil USA’s proprietary blend of cotton and synthetic fibers. It’s all-mechanical media, not electrostatic — a key difference, as products with electrostatically charged media typically see their filtration efficiency plummet as dust loads. And the lower the efficiency, the greater the energy use — and the costs.

Meanwhile, the 30/30 benefits from high structural integrity — another factor in its long life and infrequent change outs — thanks to radial media pleats which are maintained by a welded wire grid for full media support and integrity in systems where airflow may vary. And the filter’s distinctive design enables full use of the media, which boosts efficiency even more.

Together, the innovations of the 30/30 MERV 8 filter give users a longer service life and reduced energy and inventory costs, while creating less of the solid waste that is so bad for the environment.

It’s a win for the user, the environment — and the future.
